There's only so much you can do.....
With the St Edmunds first boat clearly in the wrong division, Selwyn had a tough task on their hands from the start. However after a very good start Selwyn seemed to pull away from St Edmunds and got a whistle on Christs. Cox Esme took the corners very well and although maybe half a length was gained, a length between Selwyn and St Edmunds was maintained until Ditton. Unfortunately down the reach St Edmunds put on a massive push and Selwyn was bumped half way down. Christs were a boat length ahead of Selwyn at this point.
Decent Row-over for M2
On a very cold and windy day, the M3 division was severely delayed, and subsequently the practice starts were cancelled. After a decent start Selwyn pulled very quickly away from Churchill 2, who were soon bumped by St Edmunds at First Post Corner. At the same time Selwyn got a whistle on Christs. This came back a couple of times through the corners, but they subsequently proceeded to move 2 lengths away. Selwyn held this position for the whole course and rowed over.
Because we've nothing to lose
We were always going to approach today as though we had nothing to lose. The plan was to go as hard as possible off the start and not have to worry about boats behind us.
We started encouragingly, getting a whistle immediately after the start. However, yesterday's bump fresh in our minds, we never settled to the relaxed 34 we know we can do, and instead let the attempted 39 make the rowing fall apart, and sap our energy. Peterhouse are a faster crew than FAT II and we would have needed to row much better to catch them.
We actively raced the course, but with little/no (after Peterhouse overbumped out) chance of getting a bump. Roll on tomorrow.

W2 Battle Hard
After yesterday's..."race"...W2 were keen to show what they were actually made of, and began with a purposeful row up with some nice practice starts. The sun finally emerged while waiting at station and W2 were ready to race.
