May Bumps (Thursday)

With Christs in front of us chasing a far slower Jesus, today we had our minds set on a row over. Anglia Ruskin 2nd boat were chasing us and although they looked strong we knew we had a good chance of warding them off the whole length of the course.

We managed to pull away from Anglia Ruskin right from the start. Christ bumped Jesus soon after the motorway bridge and although steering past them slowed us down we still kept our distance from Anglia Ruskin, who failed to come closer to us than the two and a half lengths separating us from the off. It felt great to see them getting smaller and smaller over the course of the race. After rounding Ditton corner we saw St Edmunds, who'd set off 5 boats in front of us, at a tempting and feasible distance of four lengths away. We started pushing for the over-over bump and rowed past our usual finish, the railwaybridge after a long series of power 10's. We heard one whistle soon after but unfortunately this was the closest we got to glory. Still, it felt good to have rowed over and we can't wait to be chasing Jesus tomorrow.
