W1 bump up!
We went into today's race knowing we had a good chance. Pembroke II had caught Peterhouse quickly so we reckoned we could do the same. Although as Julian kept telling us we just had to do exactly what we did yesterday, except stop when we hit them!
Our row up to the start was slightly less tidy than yesterday but still strong. The practice start was a little wobbly, probably due to the head wind. However, we kept it together and did some intimidating, perfectly sat pauses to psyche out ARU behind us.
On the gun we set off strong into our start which felt fast and we immediately pulled away from ARU. However, with the anticipation of a bump fuelling us our stride didn't really happen and the rate stayed very high making everything feel quite manic.
However, we put in a push into First post Corner and heard the first whistle. This quickly became two as we rowed down The Gut and into Grassy. here we lost the sit a little as we came close up behind Peterhouse which probably bought them some time. Out of Grassy we did another push and heard three whistles. This seemed to go on for ages however at the Plough Emily called for a big push and the boat responded fantastically! The speed massively picked up and before any of realised we bumped Peterhouse just before Ditton Corner.
This was a great triumph for W1, and the row may have been less tidy than Wednesdays but it was gutsy and powerful! Hopefully we can combine these qualities and take out Jesus II tomorrow!
