Bump Up!
On our row up we were allowed two practice starts for a change. The first was a little scrappy (probably due to a wind it down rather than up call from Emily) but the second was fantastic (probably due to the epic amount of Selwyn support around the Plough and Grassy).
We spun on station and as usual our bank partying was expertly executed. On the gun we did our start which was powerful and pretty neat. We pulled away from Peterhouse and pushed into Jesus II. We pushed out of Ditton and pushed into them a little more. Into Grassy, with everyone screaming for Selwyn and a fantastic line from Emily, we got our first whistle. Along Plough Reach we stayed strong still holding them at one whistle. Our corner around Ditton was a lot tidier than yesterday and after pushing out onto the Reach we got our second whistle.
You could feel the determination in the boat - no one wanted a repeat of yesterday! When Emily called for our push there was a massive surge in speed, everyone was clearly giving everything, whether planned or not our do-or-die push was happening here, half way down the reach! Two whistles quickly became three, and three turned into continuous. A little choppy water saw a couple of dodgey strokes but we recovered and bumped Jesus!
Although Jesus refused to acknowledge they had been bumped and carried on rowing, the umpire called it and Sophie felt it (I'm sure her desperate cries of 'I bumped them, I bumped them' helped our case - the one case of 'mouth is open and should be open').
W1 result = +2 for May Bumps 2010. This is a great result for us, and a massive turn around from Lents! The crew has been amazing and given everything when it really mattered, thanks ladies it's been fab! Primed and ready for entry into the first division Mays next year!
