W1 row over

May Bumps (Friday)

We began our row up with a nice rolling start (due to division delays we weren't allowed a real start). The rowing was confidant and technical and we were focussed in for the race. Some nicely times pauses scared the other crews and even Aislinn was impressed.

We spun on our station and some expert bank partying saw us out with plenty of time ready to go. On the cannon we did our start and pushed away from Peterhouse slightly. Our push into First Post Corner got us one whistle on Jesus II and after another push into Grassy we had two whistles. Everything seemed to be going to plan but as we came out onto Plough Reach we held two whistles and didn't manage to push into them any more.

Paterhouse were not a threat at two lengths or so behind us as we pushed onto the Reach. A little upset round Ditton and a minor swan collision later and we were still at two whistles. We could feel everyone getting tired but the rate stayed high and we were still giving everything we had trying to break them.

We held them at two whistles all the way down the Reach, they pulled away a little, then we drew them back in, then they pulled away again, and we crossed the line. It was a fantastic effort from the crew, it felt like everyone gave it their best shot the whole way and didn't give up. It may not have been the result we wanted but I think we rowed really well and we showed Jesus II that Selwyn Ladies don't quit and we'll be back for another go tomorrow!
