Sweet victory.
W2 cruised into the boathouse today to find sunny skies and the divisions running behind schedule. After smacking on some warpaint and taking the boat out we sat on the bank and discussed our chances for today. They were good. We were chasing Jesus W3, who looked puny as they rowed past the boathouse. All of us were hungry for a bump - it would be the first bump ever for everyone in the boat.
Our row to the station was strong, and although we didn't get a proper practice start due to delays, our rolling start past the railway bridge was confident. There was a high level of anticipation in the boat but thankfully we were able to translate that into concentrating on the task at hand.
The start was as good as yesterday's, and soon after the power ten we got a whistle on Jesus W3. Just before the motorway bridge we got a second whistle and started powering through for the bump. Fifteen strokes later we heard more whistles and Imogen called for our 'bump' strokes, with each stroke potentially our last. 10 metres past the motorway bridge we hit Jesus W3, and after some fervent hitting from our bow they conceded. Victory, and greenery, was sweet. Bring on tomorrow.
