Death by Ditton
We knew today was going to be tough, chasing a boat that had already bumped us and being chased by a boat that had beaten us by 16 seconds over a mile 2 weeks earlier. So we had a simpled race plan, to wind the f**k out of it and hope we could get to Corpus ahead of us or give it everything and it we would probably be caught by Ditton.
Of our start we wound it up into the 40s, much higher than usual. It was a strong start and we held station on Pembroke behind us and didn't let Corpus get away. As we came out of our start routine we were going strong at about rate 38 and came onto first post corner, still at station with both crews. Off the bend it became clear we were rowing unsustainably, and slowly the power began to fall and Pembroke began to close, getting a whistle on us along plough reach. Round grassy the second whistle came and we were tiring rapidly. They kept on gaining and by the Plough they had canvas and they got us just before Ditton.
It was a strong row today and tonight the plan is to somehow turn the water into Treacle for the final day of rowing tomorrow.
