Because we've nothing to lose

Lent Bumps (Wednesday)

We were always going to approach today as though we had nothing to lose. The plan was to go as hard as possible off the start and not have to worry about boats behind us.

We started encouragingly, getting a whistle immediately after the start. However, yesterday's bump fresh in our minds, we never settled to the relaxed 34 we know we can do, and instead let the attempted 39 make the rowing fall apart, and sap our energy. Peterhouse are a faster crew than FAT II and we would have needed to row much better to catch them.

We actively raced the course, but with little/no (after Peterhouse overbumped out) chance of getting a bump. Roll on tomorrow.

We will not underestimate FaT II, and will shut the door on them right from our start, but from the look of the BumpIT predictions, once they bump out, we'll have nothing behind us for quite a way.
