A strong start for W1's campaign to join the 1st division
Having had a good term of rowing and surprising many boats around Selwyn W1 were hopeful about outcome of today. We knew we could beat Fitz; it was just a matter of making sure we did!
A strong row up with two excellent start practises helped us feel confident as we span and waited. This didn’t stop the nerves though making our start was a little slower than normal. Our power ten saw us push away from LMBC II and a good strong rhythm was found; we were slowly starting to pull in Fitz. Great lines from Aislinn found us at a whistle away but Fitz were finding the energy to hold us off. Along plough reach we managed to get to two whistles. At this point the boat really wanted the bump and we kept on pushing strong and confident. Coming around Ditton corner we were on them with our final destroy call making us fly across the water to gain that well deserved bump!
Today’s row was really one of the best rows W1 have had this term. It was technical and determined. Selwyn has found a boat which never gives up and stays strong till the end. Today we could have carried on going if needed. This makes us look to tomorrow and gives us some reassurance in our chase of Jesus II.
