“There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats with your friends…”

SCBC, founded in 1882, has a long history of success in the Cambridge Lent and May bumps, mainly by coaching students that have not rowed before coming to Selwyn. Selwyn has one of the highest participation rates amongst all Cambridge Colleges. Many novices have gone on to represent the Selwyn First VIII in bumps or have trialled for one of the University Crews.

Every year we welcome more than 40 new members to the Boat Club, both undergraduate and postgraduate. Our programme is for everybody, no matter how sporty you are. Last year, Selwyn put out 2 novice women’s Eights and 2 novice men’s Eights, so we will teach you to row alongside like-minded people. So, if you are interested in getting involved in either rowing or coxing (keeping the rowers under control and steering), please contact our Lower Boat Captains or click here for more information.

If you have rowed before, we will integrate you straight into Selwyn’s senior squad, just get in touch with the Men or Women’s Captains, and ask if you have any questions.
